Titans fast bowler CJ de Villiers has been drafted into the South Africa A squad in Sri Lanka as a replacement for Cobras seamer Francois Plaatjies.

Plaatjies had undergone groin surgery during the off season but was unable to continue bowling in a warm-up game against Sri Lanka Development XI.

"It is hard luck on Plaatjies who is an outstanding talent but has been badly hit by injuries recently," CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson said. "At the same time we have every confidence in de Villiers who did well on the successful Emerging Tour of Australia earlier this month."

South Africa A take on Pakistan A in a tri-series game in Colombo on Tuesday.
