Stepping in as chief executive of the KwaZulu -Natal Cricket Union (KZNCU), Cassim Docrat is back after a brief hiatus. He takes charge on July 1.
In the time since Docrat's tenure of ten years ended, he moved on to the position of general manager of the KwaZuluNatal Inland Cricket Union (KZNICU) based in Pietermaritzburg.
Taking off from his position was Enver Mall, former attorney, and highly acclaimed national selector. His move in May 2005 was, however, short lived and he resigned less than a year into the job, on the day after the Dolphins and the Titans drew at the SuperSport series final.
While reasons for his abrupt resignation remained unknown, local newspapers alleged his deteriorating relationship with Logan Naidoo, the KZNCU's president, as reason.
"After a period of head-hunting the executive has settled on Docrat as being the best person to lead the union in their preparation for the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007," a KZNCU statement said. "It has been agreed that Cassim will continue to provide support as he had done previously when he held the position of chief executive at the KZNICU."
The statement quoted Naidoo as saying, "The Test and one-day international matches against India later in the year are considered high profile and need someone with the experience and expertise of Cassim to take the union forward."
