Empire sniff derby win

ICB Empire have not won the local derby against arch-rivals Big B Spartan for more than two decades

09-Sep-2000
ICB Empire have not won the local derby against arch-rivals Big B Spartan for more than two decades. Today might be their big chance to do so.
Penetrative fast bowling by the burly Patterson Thompson on the first two days of the match has placed them in an excellent position ahead of today's final day of their sixth round Courts/Suzuki Division 1 contest at Bank Hall.
Spartan resume their second innings on 95 for six with an overall lead of 82 after Thompson jolted them with four second-innings wickets late on the second day.
His five-wicket haul on the first day had also reduced Spartan to a modest first innings total.
An interesting finish is also expected at Black Rock where home team United Carlton, chasing 117 to beat CHIC Schools North, need another 55 runs with four wickets in hand.
Play in all matches starts at 12:30 p.m.
