Cricinfo, the home of cricket, is searching for a talented and reliable journalist to work primarily on the www.baggygreen.com.au website. The full-time position would suit a recent university graduate from a journalism course with strong reporting skills, a basic knowledge of sub-editing and the ability to produce accurate copy.
The 2006-07 season will almost certainly be the biggest in Australian cricket history with the World Cup following the Ashes, and the successful applicant will play an important role in Cricinfo's coverage. Responsible for writing news stories at international, domestic and women's level, the editorial assistant will also cover state bulletins and compile team reports.
Sub-editing is an important part of the position, and the preferred candidate will also be required to assist in maintaining Cricinfo's New Zealand and global websites. It is expected that opportunities will arise to write about international games and for other publications in the Wisden Group, but the role will mainly be as an assistant to the Australasian editor.
A passion for cricket and an in-depth knowledge of the sport is essential; so is the ability to work independently and as part of a world-wide online team. The position has flexible hours and conditions, weekend work, particularly in summer or when the Australian team is touring, and coveted cricket-watching perks.
