The CEO of Cricket Victoria, Ken Jacobs, today lent support to the Melbourne Cricket Club for the retention of 5,700 car spaces in Yarra Park.
"We always encourage patrons to utilise public transport during the cricket season, however it is still imperative that the maximum available capacity of car spaces should remain", Jacobs said.
A key stakeholder in the precinct, Cricket Victoria is responsible for the staging of international and interstate cricket matches at the MCG in conjunction with the Melbourne Cricket Club. Jacobs said "the provision of adequate parking within Yarra Park for patrons is a vital element in bringing together sporting events of the magnitude that are regularly held at the MCG."
He added "I would also like to emphasise that this is absolutley imperative during the traditional Melbourne Boxing Day Test Match and VB Series Internationals in January when car parking is already at a premium. Melbourne being the sports loving city that it is sees many events clashing, an example of which is the VB Series matches and the Australian Open often being staged at the same time".
