Glamorgan lost their third Twenty20 match of the week, as group leaders Warwickshire
maintained their unbeaten run in the competition with a 68 run victory at Edgbaston.
Warwickshire captain Nick Knight top scored with a fluent 54 as his side posted a
challenging total of 181-9 after Knight had oped to bat first. They were given a rousing start as Knight
and Neil Carter shared an opening stand of 94 in 11 overs, although Carter survived
a difficult catch in the fourth over.
Both batsmen eventually fell to Robert Croft as Warwickshire lost their last nine wickets
for 52 runs, as spinners Croft and Cosker shared five wickets between them. But the damage had been done by the first
wicket stand, and Glamorgan were left needing to score at over 9 an over.
Matthew Maynard briefly lifted Welsh spirits with a cultured half century, including
a six off the first ball of the innings as he savagely cut former Glamorgan star Waqar Younis
high over the short boundary at third man.
Maynard continued to unleash some powerful blows, but shortly after reaching his 28 ball fifty, Maynard was caught behind off leg-spinner
Collins Obuya. The Kenyan international then added four more victims in a controlled
spell of spin bowling as the Glamorgan batsmen tried to maintain the asking rate, and
the 21 year old finished with 5/24 - the best bowling figures so far in the competition.
Glamorgan were eventually dismissed for 113, and they will be looking to pick up their
first points in the two remaining games in the competition.
