Leicestershire 220 and 332 (Robinson 57, Ackerman 93, Henderson 55, Gough 4-60) lead Essex 362 by 190 runs
Scorecard
Darren Gough took 4 for 60 to give Essex a chance of victory against Leicestershire at Chelmsford; the home side will need 190 runs to win on the final day. But credit must be given to HD Ackerman and Claude Henderson, who made a decent fist of Leicestershire's second innings to give them a chance of victory. Ackerman struck 93 from 144 balls before he was bowled by Gough, who has a match haul of 7 for 106, and Henderson added 55. Leicestershire will be pleased with their day's batting, having started 85 runs behind.
Northamptonshire 281 and 115 for 7 (Louw 5*, Jones 13*) lead Yorkshire 328 by 68 runs with three wickets remaining
Scorecard
Yorkshire will head into their final day in a strong position after reducing Northamptonshire to 115 for 7 by the close. Northants have a slim lead of 68 at Headingley, but the home side will be confident of taking the last three wickets and overhauling the total. Tim Bresnan did the damage for Yorkshire, with three wickets, and Deon Kruis also took two at the top of the order to start Northants' slide.
Derbyshire 215 and 81 for 1 (Di Venuto 40) trail Lancashire 469 (Loye 101, Law 112, Chilton 50, Hodge 65, Chapple 41) by 296 runs
Scorecard
Mal Loye and Stuart Law each struck centuries to put Lancashire firmly in the driving seat in their rain-affected match against Derbyshire at Old Trafford. Loye made 101 and Law 112, and were ably supported by Brad Hodge's 65 and Glenn Chapple's 41 as the home side made 469. Derbyshire started will in reply, losing only Michael Di Venuto for 40, to end the day 81 for 1. But they are still 296 runs adrift of Lancashire's imposing total and will have to work hard to save the match on the final day.
Somerset 252 and 219 for 8 (Blackwell 66*) lead Durham 298 (Plunkett 74*, Davies 62) by 173 runs
Scorecard
An intriguing final day is in prospect at Stockton-on-Tees as a seesaw encounter between Somerset and Durham hangs firmly in the balance. Somerset busied themselves with increasing their second-innings total to 219 for 8 by the close, a lead of 173 runs. If Durham can shoot out their final two wickets quickly, a gripping finale is in prospect. Michael Burns failed to add to his overnight score and was the first one to fall on the third day, trapped lbw by Steve Harmison who picked up his third wicket of the innings. But Ian Blackwell stayed firm and was unbeaten on 66 by the close. Much rests on his shoulders.
