The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka's (BCCSL) search for a replacement for national team coach Dav Whatmore has been broadened to include former South African cricket coach Graham Ford.
Ford has been approached by the BCCSL according to well-informed sources as the search for a new coach intensifies with a Test series due to start on April 25.
Another former South African coach Bob Woolmer has said that he is not available, while two other former cricketers Australian wicket-keeper Steve Rixon and New Zealand all-rounder John Bracewell are in the running for the post.
Ford (42) was appointed assistant to Bob Woolmer as South African coach at the beginning of 1999 and succeeded him after the 1999 World Cup, continuing until back-to-back defeats against Australia in 2002.
