1. Pre-toss: VVS Laxman didn't recover in time. Rohit Sharma injured himself playing football. Reserve wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha made debut as a specialist batsman. A total of three Tests between three middle-order batsmen. MS Dhoni lost the toss too.
2. Kallis and Amla: They came in together at 6 for 2, had to go through a tough period, but then attacked and added an unbeaten 291 for the third wicket.
3. Badri drops Amla: When on 82, Amla provided India with a first clear opportunity, hitting Ishant Sharma uppishly towards short mid-on. It fell just short of S Badrinath, but the debutant dived laterally, and not in front.
