†INDIA v SRI LANKA 1988-89

At Dhaka, November 4

15-Apr-1990
At Dhaka, November 4. India won by six wickets. Toss: India. Mahanama and Kuruppu, with the smart running between the wickets which had been a feature of Sri Lanka's cricket in the tournament, got away to a flying start on a good batting pitch. They had 50 on the board in the thirteenth over, but a stumping and four run-outs reduced Sri Lanka to 130 for six in the 35th over. Mendis, who hit a six and three fours in 34 balls, and Karnain struck 30 from the next five overs before India again took charge. Although the Sri Lankans fielded tigerishly, their total was always within India's compass. Srikkanth made a typical start, hitting 23 from 28 balls. Sidhu was in a dominant mood, his 76 from 90 balls including three sixes and four fours, and Vengsarkar (80 balls) remained unbeaten to guide his side to victory.
