India v Sri Lanka, 2nd Test, Kanpur, 3rd day
26-Nov-2009
Sreesanth's spell early on the third day was a master class. He finished with stellar figures of 9-2-28-3, having sent back both overnight batsmen Tharanga Paranavitana, Kumar Sangakkara as well as the dangerous Thilan Samaraweera. It was just the boost India needed as they dominated from then on.
Not everything went Sreesanth's way though. He produced an edge from his best delivery but it didn't get him a wicket. Mahela Jayawardene, on zero, pushed at his first ball that cut away late and got an edge but neither MS Dhoni nor Sachin Tendulkar at first slip went for the catch. India could have delivered the killer blow and ensured an even quicker end to Sri Lanka's first innings.
The Sri Lankan back was broken during the follow-on, when two of their premier batsmen, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara departed in successive overs before stumps. If Jayawardene was run out as Sangakkara called for a suicidal run during Ojha's second over, the captain himself chopped a Harbhajan delivery on to his stumps the next over.
