Robin Singh, who has just been given a one-year contract extension with the Indian team as their fielding coach, is confident that the team will improve in his area of focus. "We have been looking at a lot of areas. And we are getting better at things like reaching the ball quickly, getting into the right throwing positions and being better balanced the whole time", he said while speaking to The Hindu.
"We realise the importance of catching in the slip cordon, and there is no substitute for practice here," he said. Robin added that fielders for specific positions had been identified but different options will be tried out.
"I have played a lot in England. It should help. We need to adapt, particularly when the weather turns cold."
"Improvement in fielding cannot happen overnight. It is an ongoing process," he said. The one-year contract means that Robin has the time and means to make such a difference.
Robin has previously coached the India A team, the India under-19s and the Hong Kong national team. He joined the Indian team as their fielding coach during the tour to Bangladesh.
