Three of the five scheduled Pura Cup matches, and two of the five scheduled ING Cup matches will be played at the SCG. This announcement comes after discussions and negotiations with Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust and managers of the Telstra Stadium.
Mr Bob Horsell, chairman of Cricket NSW, said, "After considered and full evaluation of the options available to us, The board of Cricket NSW is unanimous in its decision that playing international cricket at the SCG for the next five years is best for the game's future. NSW cricket fans can be confident that the game will continue to prosper and grow,"
David Gilbert, Cricket NSW's chief executive, said, "We have stated consistently that cricket's future is dependent upon our ability to look after the grassroots. As we look to the future, increased funding for school cricket, local clubs and grade competitions throughout NSW is a priority for Cricket NSW. While international cricket will not be played at Telstra Stadium for the next five years, this decision in no way diminishes our commitment to develop cricket in Sydney's Greater West and regional NSW."
Bob Merriman, the chairman of Cricket Australia, expressed his satisfaction at the outcome. "Cricket Australia fully supports Cricket NSW decision. The tender process Cricket NSW has conducted has resulted in a much improved outcome for cricket."
The SCG authorities will spend around A$50 million on modernising the venue, including plans for a 7000-seater stand on the site of the Hill.
