U-19, All Hotel draw
ALL-ROUNDER Marlon Samuels and leg-spinner Kevin Peart
were in fine form as the national Under-19 team played
to a draw with an All-Hotel XI at Content Gardens at
the weekend.
Scores: All-Hotel 192 and 245; Under-19s 233 and 85 for
five.
All-Hotel, after winning the toss and taking first
strike, were restricted by Samuels who took three for
53 from 19 overs and Peart who had three for 40 from
8.3 overs as only opener Karl McDonald with a 100-ball
83 (10 fours and a six) and an enterprising 50 from
West Indies pacer Franklyn Rose offered any resistance.
Samuels went on to lead the batting for the Under-19s
with 97 before he was stumped by wicketkeeper Howard
Harris off Carl Brissett. Other useful contributions
came from Ricardo Powell (35) and Keithroy Whilby (19),
while Tamar Lambert and Cunningham both scored 15.
Brissett took three wickets for 43 runs from 20 overs,
while Courtney Laing had two wickets for 41 runs from
17 overs.
Opening batsmen McDonald (62) and Christopher Gayle
(86) posted an opening stand of more than a hundred in
All-Hotel's second innings before both were snared by
leg-spinner Peart who ended with five for 54 from 17
overs. Peart got good support from Samuels (two for 26
from 10 overs) and Cunningham (two for 52 from 19
overs).
Rose captured three for 19 to have the Under-19s
struggling at 85 for five at the end of the game.
