Summons for Contempt of Court issued on the Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket withdrawn
Summons were issued on the Members of the Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (respondents) for contempt of Court on a case filed by Mr. Anura Weerasinghe. The case came up today for hearing (11.05.2006). Mr. Romesh de Silva President's Counsel with Harsha Amarasekera & Naomal Pelpola, Attorneys-at-Law appeared for the respondents and made submissions that the Summons were not proper in law, in that it did not conform to the stipulated format in law and moved Court that summons be withdrawn. The Honourable District Judge then made an order recalling the Summons for Contempt filed by the Petitioner.
Further submissions were made by the President's Counsel for the Respondent that Summons for Contempt of Court should not have been issued at all as there was no act of Contempt of Court and moved Court to inquire into the question of whether summons should be issued on the Respondents. The learned Judge accordingly fixed the matter for inquiry on the 25/05/2006.
