The bowler with the most wickets at the end of the present series
between England and the West Indies will receive the Malcolm Marshall
Memorial Trophy. The trophy will be unveiled at Lord's Cricket Ground
on Tuesday.
This ceremony, sponsored by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and
the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), will take place in the
ECB's Office and will be witnessed by a cross-section of the
cricketing fraternity, including WICB president Pat Rousseau.
He, along with the ECB's chief executive Tim Lamb, will address the
gathering while president of the Barbados Cricket Association, Stephen
Alleyne, will pay tribute to Marshall the former West Indies fast
bowler and team coach who died of colon cancer last November 4. There
will also be a short video presentation on the late Barbadian
cricketer.
Marshall's widow, Connie, and their son, Mali, will attend the
ceremony as guests of the WICB and she has agreed to unveil the bronze
14-inch statue of Marshall bowling.
The WICB will sponsor a half-hour radio broadcast of this event on the
Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) network at 10:30 a.m. Eastern
Caribbean time on Tuesday. There will also be a television broadcast
at a later date.
The Malcolm Marshall Memorial Trophy, which will be awarded to the top
bowler in each West Indies-England series, is the initiative of the
WICB, in conjunction with the ECB. It is designed to perpetuate the
memory of the fast bowling legend who has held the record for the most
wickets in a series between England and the West Indies since 1988
when he took 35 wickets on tour in England.
The last Test starts on Thursday at the Oval in London.
