0 Number of times either Pakistan or Sri Lanka had been involved in a Test where a team lost after posting a 450-plus score in the first innings of the match. Pakistan's defeat in Galle was the 12th such result in Test cricket. Pakistan, however, have lost three Tests after batting second and making 450-plus in their first innings, including the Oval Test that they conceded in response to allegations of ball tampering in 2006.
1 Number of times a Pakistan wicketkeeper has scored fifties in both innings of an away Test. Sarfraz Ahmed made 55 and an unbeaten 52 in Galle. It's happened before in Pakistan, though - Kamran Akmal against South Africa in 2007, and Saleem Yousuf against Australia in 1988.
2 Number of times Sri Lanka had previously scored at a run rate in excess of five to win a Test in the fourth innings (min. 15 overs). One of these two instances was in Galle, where Sri Lanka achieved their target of 93 against New Zealand in 18.3 overs, but on the third day, and under much less pressure. Sri Lanka scored 99 in 16.2 overs to win this Test, making it the first time they scored at a run rate in excess of six in a chase of at least 15 overs.
3 Number of times that a Sri Lanka-Pakistan Test has produced a result after both teams scoring 300-plus runs in the first innings. This is the first such instance in a Test between these two teams on Sri Lankan soil. The previous instances were in Sharjah and Karachi.
32 Number of times Mahela Jayawardene has opened the batting in ODI cricket. However, he had never opened in Test cricket before today. He scored 26 runs off 35 balls, and the record books will show his strike rate of 74.28 as a Test opener is better than at any other position.
11 Number of Sri Lankan pacers who have taken 50 Test wickets. Shaminda Eranga was the latest when he dismissed Abdur Rehman during Pakistan's second innings. Chaminda Vaas leads the table with 355 wickets, while Lasith Malinga's 101 wickets is a distant second.
6-48 Rangana Herath's figures in Pakistan's second innings - the seventh five-wicket haul by a Sri Lankan spinner after opening the bowling. Herath has three such hauls and all of them have come in 2014. Suraj Randiv, Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumara Dharmasena and Niroshan Bandaratilleke are the other Sri Lankan spinners to do it.
14 Number of times Sri Lankan spinners have taken 16 or more wickets in a Test. The last such performance was at the SSC, Colombo, in Sri Lanka's previous Test, against South Africa.
7 Number of five-wicket hauls by Saeed Ajmal in Tests Pakistan have lost. Only Muralitharan (15), Daniel Vettori (8) and Shakib Al Hasan (8) have more five-fors in defeats. Bishan Bedi also took seven five-fors in defeats.
