Martin Snedden announced as Chief Executive of New Zealand Cricket

Chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Board, Sir John Anderson, today announced former international cricketer and lawyer Martin Snedden as the new Chief Executive of New Zealand Cricket.

Snedden, (42), will take up the Christchurch-based position on 30 July. He will remain a member of the New Zealand Cricket Board until that date. A replacement member of the Board will be elected at the annual general meeting in September.

Snedden, Black Cap No 149, played for New Zealand from 1980-1990, a period of unprecedented success for the national side. The right arm medium-fast bowler played 25 Tests and 93 One-Day Internationals. He took 58 Test wickets at 37.91 and 114 ODI wickets at 28.39. In a first-class career representing Auckland and New Zealand he played 118 matches and claimed 387 wickets at 25.62. He was vice-captain of the New Zealand side for the 1988 tour of India.

Snedden has a law degree from the University of Otago and has devoted his working life to the family firm, first as a solicitor and for the past 11 years as a partner of Snedden & Associates.

He has twice been a member of the New Zealand Cricket Board, from 1990-1992 and from 1999-current. He was co-opted onto the Hood Committee which reviewed the governance and structure of New Zealand Cricket in 1995. He has also been an Auckland Cricket representative on the Eden Park Board of Control 1993-1996.

The Snedden family has a long heritage in the game. Snedden's grandfather, Nessie, captained New Zealand and Auckland, his uncle Colin played for New Zealand and his father, Andrew, played for Auckland. Interestingly his great-grandfather was one of the original six purchasers and registered proprietors of Eden Park.

Snedden is married to Anne and has four children, Lucy (13), Stephanie (11), Michael (8), and Ella (6).
