England may have axed Matthew Maynard as assistant coach, but there's at least one country who is interested in his services. Maynard, who was replaced on Monday by Andy Flower after two years in the role, revealed that India have asked him to work with their academy and he was confident that other offers would come in.
He admitted the ECB's decision to appoint a new assistant coach for their new head coach Peter Moores hadn't come as too much of a shock, and that he had been expecting as much from the moment Duncan Fletcher retired. "I pretty much thought that was going to be the end for me as well," he revealed, although he was contracted with the ECB until the end of the summer.
He said that he would have liked to stay on with the ECB, even if in a different capacity. "There could've been other jobs with the board, but I'm happy this way. I've had a pretty tough winter so it'll be nice to sort this summer out and spent some time with the family." Indeed, he appeared to be in no hurry to rush into another job. "I'm just going to take my time," he told BBC Sport, "I don't want to rush into anything."
Maynard would have liked to take on the coach's job at Glamorgan, his former county. But they have just appointed a new coach, Adrian Shaw, who has had positive feedback from the players. "It would be very hard for me go back there at the moment."
