Brendon McCullum, the New Zealand wicketkeeper and newest Glamorgan signing, says he wants to boost the county side to Twenty20 Cup success. Glamorgan make their 2006 competition debut against Worcestershire tonight, and the hard-hitting McCullum believed it was the apt time for rejuvenation.
"It's almost come at the right time for me," he was quoted as saying to The Western Mail. "The shorter form of the game certainly suits my style of play. Hopefully I can make some kind of contribution in the next couple of weeks. I'm very excited to be here.
McCullum, 24, has replaced Australia A call-up Mark Cosgrove for five weeks. With a strike rate of close to 180 in six Twenty20 games back home, McCullum said he would relish the prospect of the Twenty20 Cup. "It's a great opportunity for me to come in on the back of what Mark has done, because he has done brilliantly," he said. "I haven't had a lot of cricket since my domestic season finished. But I'm hoping to pick it up again quickly and try to get my game back on target."
McCullum has been slotted in the No.3 position after scoring just eight from No.4 in a 165-run loss to Hampshire in their final C&G Trophy tie on Sunday.
