Muralitharan puts BRC in a spin

The Premier Limited Overs match between Tamil Union and BRC was a one sided contest, with Tamil Union ending up easy winners at P. Saravanamuththu Stadium today. Tamil Union scored a creditable 219 runs having been asked to bat in damp conditions and with a sluggish outfield. With the inform Muraltharan in their ranks, the total proved well beyond BRC.

Tamil union started their innings badly losing three wickets for just 21 runs. However, Peiris and Rideegammanagedara then put on 97 runs for the fourth wicket. Gajanayake, the ex Sri Lanka Under 19s captain, then helped add 38 in just 5 overs before Rideegammanagedara was dismissed for 70 from 97 deliveries. Thereafter, Siroman, Bandaratilake and Jayarathna all chipped in to ensure Tamil Union a competitive first innings score. Muralitharan was stumped for a duck on his return to domestic cricket.

In reply BRC never really looked in contention. They lost their first wicket in the very first over. After a second wicket partnership of 29, they lost regular wickets. Young all-rounder, Malintha Warnapura, provided the only resistance with an undefeated 32. Mutiah Muralitharan was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 15 from his 8 overs.
