Tim Nielsen, the former South Australian player who is currently the head coach of the Commonwealth Bank Centre of Excellence, will captain and coach an Australian team for the Hong Kong sixes tournament, starting on October 22. The rest of the squad comprises emerging players and the side will be managed by Geoff Allardice.
The eight competing teams have been drawn into two pools for the first stage of the tournament, which will be played in round-robin format. Pakistan, South Africa, India and West Indies are in the first pool while England, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and Australia are part of the second pool.
Australia's qualifying matches will be against England, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong, with a final series to be played by the top two teams from each pool.
