Gerald Majola, the Cricket South Africa chief executive, has clarified the board's position on the quota selection system and said that, while it will be constantly reviewed, there is no definitive timeframe to end it.
His comments come following reports that merit-based selection criteria would come into force by 2011. CSA's transformation review committee, which monitors the quota system and assesses its success, submitted a report to the board recently and will do the same over the next three years.
The current target is for four non-white players in each team and a minimum of seven in a squad of 15, a level reached in the party to tour Australia.
"It must be stressed that these are targets, and if they are not met then CSA attempts to rectify the capacity-building programmes to ensure the process is making progress," Majola said. "Once the imbalances have been satisfactorily rectified, CSA would consider whether or not to withdraw targeted transformation.
"Nobody at this stage can forecast when this will take place, as the massive disparities in facilities alone still remain a legacy of the past."
