Karachi, Dec 19: Mohammad Zamir Khan Memorial CC (MZK) after upsetting top seeds
Tapal CC in the quarter-finals, made a triumphant entry into the final of the
5th Danish Trophy Ramazan cricket tournament, beating defending champions STR II
CC by six wickets with only one delivery to spare in a nail-biting finish at the
KGA ground on Tuesday afternoon.
Winning the toss and batting first STR II scored 142 for 5 in their 20 allotted
overs through Shanul Haq (33), Atif Naseem (25), Mohammad Nadeem (23) and
Tauseef (22).
Off-spinner Akbar Alam 2/24 and Hummayun Alvi 2/27 were among the wickets for
the fielding side.
M.Z. Khan Memorial in reply reached the winning target with only one delivery to
spare after losing four wickets. Needing six runs in the last over for victory,
the STR II fielders missed two run out chances which could have swung the game
the other way round.
Ishtiaq Ahmed led his team to this exciting victory with a dashing knock of 89
runs, which came off only 61 deliveries studded with three sixes and eight
scorching boundaries.
Masood bowled a tidy line and length for the losers picking up 3/24 in his four
over stint.
Mohammad Zamir Khan Memorial will now meet Mohammad Hussain CC in the final on
Dec 25 at 1.00 p.m.
Earlier in the first semi-final, Mohammad Hussain CC upset KGA Gymkhana by 19
runs.
