The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt Gen Tauqir
Zia smoothened ruffled feathers during his recent visit to Colombo.
He pulled up the manager of the Pakistan team in Sri Lanka Brig.
Mohammad Nasir and described his remarks on India being the `hub
of bookies' as uncalled for. He also extended the olive branch to
BCCI officials, renewed an invitation to India to make a tour
of Pakistan during the 2000-2001 season and in fact sent across
a preliminary itinerary.
Back home in Karachi on Friday, Gen Zia reiterated that Brig.
Nasir's comments were unwarranted. ``It was not in his domain
to comment on India's state of affairs. They have conducted a
judicial investigation and Pakistan accepts it," said Zia. He
however ruled out any further action against Nasir. "Since he has
been warned and reminded about his job, there is no reason to
forward his case before the disciplinary committee," he clarified.
The PCB chief said he has replied to the protest letter of
BCCI secretary JY Lele regarding the manager's remarks. "I
have clarified the position of the PCB. I have told them that
Pakistan doesn't want to spoil the cordial relations between the
two boards. I have also reminded him that it's after a very long
time that we have come this close. Now since I have returned, I
will personally call AC Muttiah or Lele.''
