Islamabad, Sept 11: Pakistan Cricket Board has said that all necessary
and urgent renovation work on Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is being
approved while estimates submitted for various other developments is
being analysed.
Talking to Dawn PCB spokesperson maintained that the venue will have
an international look ahead of the day and night game between Pakistan
and England on Oct 29.
A report identifying the areas needing repair, renovations worth Rs
5.1 million has been submitted with the PCB by the stadium coordinator
Brig. (R) Shami during the recently held meeting at Lahore, it was
learnt.
The board has decided to replace 8,000 fibre-seats out of the 9,500
fixed seats in the two enclosures, besides, renovation of all stands,
players dressing rooms, VIP enclosure etc. Work on improvement of the
outfield is already underway.
Meanwhile, the installation work on the six floodlights poles is in
progress and PCB has deposited Rs 9.56 million to Islamabad Electric
Supply Corporation (IESC) to lay a separate supply line.
Experts on installation of the Malaysian-made digital scoreboard
visited the site and work is expected to get under way in the next
three to four days.
The Rawalpindi stadium digital scoreboard will have provision to
splash various advertisements, however, there is no screen. All work
is to be completed by Oct 15, according to the deadline submitted to
the chairman PCB.
