The Rangpur franchise has appointed Shane Jurgensen as their head coach for the BPL's third season starting next month. The former Queensland and Tasmania player is set to return to the country 18 months after he quit as the coach of the national team.
"We have a deal with Shane Jurgensen, who will be our head coach," Rangpur owner Rafiqul Islam said. "We are hoping he will arrive in Dhaka a week or so before the tournament begins."
Former Bangladesh bowler Mohammad Rafique has been appointed as the team's bowling coach.
Jurgensen left in May 2014 after resigning from the position of Bangladesh coach following a stint of 19 months during which the team won ODI series against West Indies (2012) and New Zealand (2013) and drew against Sri Lanka (2013). His next assignment was to coach in Fijiand a short stint with Scotlandduring this year's World Cup.
Jurgensen is among four foreign head coaches in this season's BPL. Former South Africa and Australia coach Mickey Arthur will do the job for the Dhaka franchise while Barisal announced last week that Graham Ford had been appointed their head coach. Robin Singh is Chittagong's head coach.
The two Bangladeshi head coaches in the BPL are Mohammad Salahuddin (Comilla) and Sarwar Imran (Sylhet).
