Somerset's trio of England one day internationals are set to resume their quest for further success in Australia this winter, when they take on the men in baggy green caps again in the Victoria Bitter cup in Tasmania on Saturday morning.
Whilst Andy Caddick and Marcus Trescothick have been busy playing their part in helping England salvage some pride from the Ashes series with a victory in the final Test match at Sydney, newcomer Ian Blackwell has been training hard and then taking part in the one day match against the Bradman XI.
At the end of the match he told me: "Things are about to kick off in the VB series and we depart for Hobart tomorrow .I'm hoping for similar rewards for the team's hard work in preparation whilst the Test matches have been going on."
`Blackie' pointed out one of the problems of having a break in the triangular series during which two test matches were played.
He said: "It is quite difficult to prepare when half the side is involved in Test match cricket, but we have coped."
Regarding his own form he told me: "Personally things are going O.K. for me and I am really looking forward to the next half of this tournament and then onto the World Cup!"
`Blackie' and his two other Somerset colleagues can rest assured that everybody back home will be watching developments with renewed interest on Saturday morning and hoping that England can continue with their new found form and notch up another morale boosting victory against the old enemy.
