CRICKET (Abroad):
* India has reinstated Mohammed Azharuddin for the inaugural
Siyaram Cup three-nation cricket tournament which starts in
Hyderabad tomorrow. All matches will be played at the Lal
Bahadur Shastri Stadium and only the final on June 16 will be a
day night affair.
Azharuddin returns to the side after being sacked from the side
for the recent Pepsi Independence Cup which was won by Sri
Lanka. Both New Zealand and Pakistan will field the same sides
which took part in the Pepsi Independence Cup. The three teams
will play each other once and the top two teams will play in the
final. Hosts India will meet New Zealand in tomorrow's `curtain
raiser'. On Friday, New Zealand will play Pakistan and the
battle between arch rivals India and Pakistan will be played on
Saturday.
* Sri Lanka is still undecided on their final X1 for their first
Test against the West Indies to be played at Antigua Recreation
grounds, St.Vincent from Friday. This will be the first ever
Test between the two countries on Caribbean islands soil and
only the second Test overall since the two teams met for thee
first time in a rain-hit drawn Test in Moratuwa.
Sri Lanka is likely to open batting with Roshan Mahanama and
Sanath Jayasuriya with Marvan Atapattu at No.3. Dulip Liyanage
could well be the newball partner to Sajeeva de Silva in the
absence of injured pacemen Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa.
