Wijeratne, Ratnayake shine for Sri Rahula

Aggressive batting by Chitranath Wijeratne (60 and 53 not out)
and Nalaka Ratnayaka (63 not out) who put on 113 in an unbroken
stand for the third wicket in just 40 minutes for Sri Rahula
College was the highlight of their inter-school cricket match
against Gurukula Maha Vidyalaya, Kelaniya which in a tall
scoring draw at Katugastota on Tuesday.
In a rare incident in a school cricket match in the hill capital
J. Rajapakse was given out handling the ball when he had scored
46 in Sri Rahula's second innings.

C. Wijeratne 60, N. Ratnayake 37, S. Bandara 25, R.

An elegant knock of 105 with 12 fours by S. Gunawardena for St.
Joseph's College 'A' was the highlight of their inter school
cricket match against Dharmaraja College 'A' which ended in a
tame draw in Kandy.
St. Joseph's College 'A' 232 for 6 wickets decl. (D. Morrel 47,
S. Gunawardena 105, D. Fernando 42 not out, D. Bandara 3 for 26,
S. Wijeratne 2 for 87) AND 103 for 6 at stumps (A. Fernando 47
not out, G. Aoulis 21, G. Chandranath 21, D. Bandara 2 for 41,
N. Wickremaratne 2 for 25).

St. Aloysius College Galle 186 all out

Spinners Sanjeewa Gamage 5 for 35 and Nisitha Rupasinghe 3 for
80 restricted St. Aloysius College Galle to 186 all out in their
inter-school cricket match against Kingswood College which began
at police grounds, Kandy yesterday.
St. Aloysius who were 83 for 5 at one stage recovered through
some useful contributions by the tail enders.
At stumps Kingswoodians have replied with 125 for 3. Lasitha
Ekanayake and Chanaka Amunupura put on 66 for the second wicket.

Sylvesterians well placed

St. Sylvester's College were well placed at the end of the first
day's play in their inter-school cricket match against St.
Sebastian's College Moratuwa which began at the University
Grounds, Peradeniya.
After dismissing the Sebastianites for 201, the Sylvestrians
replied strongly with 121 for 1 through a good unbroken
partnership of 109 for the second wicket between Ranga
Dissanayake 51 not out and Zahran Hajireen 54 not out.
When the Sebastianites balled they were 10 for 4 at one stage
and later recovered to 80 for 6 at lunch. Ranga Dissanayake 3
for 61 bringing his tally to 68 wickets this and C. Bandara 4
for 79 did the damage for the Sylvestrians.
St. Sebastian's College 201 all out in 64.1 overs 265 mt. (B.
Mendis 35, M.J. Fernando 23, M. Fernando 42, R. Balasuriya 40,

cricket encounter against St.Joseph's concluded at Darley Road
yesterday.
Set to make 231 in 36 overs the visitors settled down for a draw
and scored 111 for 1 in their second innings.

Wasantha Karunarathna took a match bag of 11 wickets for 116
runs for the winner while M.Perera top scored with 95 runs.

Following is a summary of the matches, conducted by the Sri
Lanka Tennis Ball Cricket Federation and sponsored by the Lanka
General Trading Company Ltd and Indu Sports India for the Lanka
General Trading Company Ltd Trophy. The tournament is conducted
on a knockout basis over 30 overs.
Green Channels SC trounce Barbarians SC by 10 wkts.
Barbarians SC batting first were boundled out for 30 in just 17
overs due to some accurate bowling by M. C. M. Rizwan who
captured 5 wickets for 11 runs. In reply Green Channel SC
knocked off the required runs scoring 34 in a mere five overs
with Irfan Hameed showing the way with a hard hit 22 n.o.
Ranajayagama SC beat Kent SC by 42 runs
Ranajayagama SC batting first totalled 107 in 17.2 overs with S.
Nalin 29 and L. Lakmal 24 boosting the total. Saman Manjula 4/45
and S. Yogaraja 3/30 were the most successful bowlers. Kent SC
in reply only managed 65 in 19.1 overs. R. Silva 17 and M.
Joachim 15 were the chief scorers. S. Nalin 4/6 and R. Sanjeewa
3/10 were the chief wreckers.

A fine allround effort by M. Thanga (51 and 4/17) helped Oxford
SC trounce Wills and Ways by the massive margin of 168 runs.
Oxford SC batting first totalled a handsome 215 runs in 20 overs
with M. Thanga (51) and R. Sampath (50) being the first half
centurions. R. Ushan (35) and T. Saldin (27) made useful
contributions. S. Karthavelupillai bowled best to capture 3/73.
In reply Wills and Ways could only muster 47 runs due to some
penetrative bowling by M. Thanga (4/17).
