SRI LANKA SPORTS NEWS AT-A-GLANCE

* Sri Lanka's next Test commitment at home will be against
Zimbabwe who are due to tour here early next year. The babes of
Test cricket, Zimbabwe are down to play two Tests against Sri
Lanka, apart from three one day internationals.
After this two-Test home series, Sri Lanka will tour South
Africa to play two Tests in Cape Town and Centurion Park which
will be followed by a three-nation one day international
tournament which also features Pakistan.
Sri Lanka team will tour Pakistan to play in the Jinnah trophy
quadrangular tournament in Lahore from November 1 to 8. From
November 14 to December 26, Sri Lanka will tour India to play
three Tests and equal number of one day internationals.
* The Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) are planning to celebrate
their Centenary Year in 1999 with a four-nation one-day
international cricket tournament planned for February that year.
India, Pakistan along with one other country will join host Sri
Lanka in the competition, which is expected to be a fore-runner
to the June 1999 World Cup tournament in England.
All matches including the final are scheduled to be played at
the SSC.The SSC are renowned for producing some of the finest
cricketers to don the Sri Lanka cap in its one hundred years of
existence, including the current World Cup winning captain
Arjuna Ranatunga. Sri Lanka is also scheduled to hold its
independence golden jubilee celebration four-nation tournament
in September next year.
