Sri Lanka v Pakistan, 2013-14

Wisden's review of the fourth ODI, Sri Lanka vs Pakistan, 2013-14

15-Apr-2014
At Abu Dhabi, December 25, 2013 (day/night). Pakistan won by eight wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.
One-day international debuts: S. M. A. Priyanjan, K. D. K. Vithanage.
A third century of the series from Mohammad Hafeez - matching the achievement of seven others, including Pakistan's Zaheer Abbas in 1982-83, and South Africa's Quinton de Kock a few weeks earlier - carried his side to a series victory on Christmas Day. Hafeez lapped up Sri Lanka's persistent use of the short ball, racing to 50 off 38 deliveries, and his ninth hundred in the format. After Sri Lanka batted first, Umar Gul could not believe how his rank long-hop to Kushal Perera ended up in cover's hands, but there was genuine craft in the way he set up Dilshan and Chandimal to make it 36 for three. Debutant Ashan Priyanjan gave the innings direction in a classy fifty marked by fast hands and back-foot class. But he and Sangakkara had not quite completed the repair job when Sangakkara sacrificed his wicket in a mix-up. Junaid Khan and Saeed Ajmal dampened token resistance put up by Mathews and another debutant, Kithuruwan Vithanage.
Man of the Match: Mohammad Hafeez.
