Any doubts as to who will have the official rights to sell match
tickets for the 1999 World Cup cricket tournament in Sri Lanka was
cleared at a press conference held at 'Steuart House' yesterday.
At a well-attended press briefing, George Steuarts Travel
International Ltd announced that they have secured the official
rights to sell tickets for all 39 matches in the tournament.
Yesterday's press conference, chaired by the company's managing
director S. Skandakumar explained the procedures that would apply for
the purchase of match tickets for the tournament.
The two packages on offer are: Package 1 - air ticket, match tickets
and accommodation for those requiring accommodation in UK; Package 2
- air ticket and match tickets for those making own accommodation in
UK.
"We are doing this mainly to clear any confusion that may exist in
the minds of our cricket loving public as to who has authority to
sell such tickets," said Skandakumar.
"The tournament hosts, the England and Wales Cricket Board have
confirmed that only those accredited with the status of official
travel agent and authorised to use the World Cup logo will be
allocated match tickets for sale," he said.
George Steuarts were also the exclusive travel agent for World Cup
'96 which Sri Lanka won beating Australia at Lahore. They also
contributed Rs. 100,000 towards the Cricket Board's year 2000 program
on that occasion.
The company's directors Bernard Wijetunga and Murali Ramanathan,
corporate accounts manager Channa Wijemanne, sales manager Rimzi
Nazeer and tours manager Lucky Fernando were also present.
