Andrew Symonds has been passed fit to participate in the triangular one-day tournament in Holland and the Champions Trophy in England in September. Symonds injured his right ankle while playing for Kent in the English county season, and was immediately summoned home by Cricket Australia to undergo treatment. However, he got a clean bill of health after an examination by Dr Trefor James, the Australian board's medical officer.
"It appears that the period of rest Andrew has just undertaken has helped alleviate the problem with his right ankle," said Dr James. "It shouldn't interfere with his cricket and he will be available for selection for the ICC Champions Trophy."
Symonds himself was relieved with the verdict. "Having seen the doctor, I'm pleased that the problem isn't too severe and that I'm available for selection. I'm just concentrating on preparing for the tours ahead, and getting myself in the best possible shape should I be selected."
Symonds has been named in Australia's 30-man provisional squad for the Champions Trophy. The final 14-man line-up will be named by August 10.
