Ambrose, 24, who heads the Warwickshire batting averages in the 2007 County Championship with 53.06, said he was looking forward to his interim role. "It is a great honour to captain the club while Darren is on international duty," he said. "We have a tough couple of games coming up.
"We will need to be a strong unit and fight right up to the end of the season. I will be looking to follow Darren and lead by example. I have the team behind me and I look forward to leading them out on Thursday [the first day of the County Championship match against Surrey]."
Ambrose stood in for Maddy, who had an ankle injury, in yesterday's Pro40 Division One match against Lancashire, but ended up on the losing side.
