Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has been invited for a
discussion by Justice Yaswant Vishnu Chandrachud, who is probing
the betting allegations against Indian cricketers.
The inquiry on the betting scandal is scheduled to be held in
Mumbai on Thursday, a day before Azar and other Mumbai players
leaves for the Conditioning Camp in Delhi.
According to BCCI sources, it is certain that he will be asked
to give his version or explanation on why Rashid Latif, the
former Pakistani cricketer had to individually send him a fax in
Sri Lanka, denying his allegations about Azar's alleged
involvement. BCCI officials are also convinced that Azharuddin
will certainly appear before Justice Chandrachud's one-man
committee.
Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Nayan Mongia and Andra Pradesh
D. V. Subba Rao, manager of the West Indies tour are among those
scheduled to appear before the committee in the next few days.
Meanwhile the Central Bureau of Investigation has initiated an
inquiry into the entire procedure followed by Doordarshan, the
national television network for the World Cup telecast on
allegations that the Doordarshan had lost Rs. 350 million by
having a contract with Star TV.
