Patrick Ochan, a 16-year-old bowler, was a surprise inclusion in the Ugandan team that will play Kenya in an ICC Inter-Continental qualifying match next week. Ochan represented Uganda in the U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh recently, and plays for Maruti in the local leagues.
Tom Tikolo, the coach, has named a 15-man squad to take on his countrymen, as Uganda look to build on their shock victory over Namibia in an earlier match. Victory over Kenya would assure them of a place in the Inter-continental semi-finals, to be played in the United Arab Emirates in November.
After the Kenya game, the team will also take part in the Africa Cricket Association tournament being hosted by Zambia. The top two finishers there will move ahead to the 2007 World Cup qualifiers, to be held in Malaysia and Ireland.
