Shane Watson and Andrew Symonds hit centuries and ensured that Queensland secured first-innings points against Western Australia in their Pura Cup match at Perth. At the end of the third day Queensland had reached 9 for 560 in response to Western Australia's 512.
The day began with Queensland reasonably well placed at 2 for 195, with Watson and Symonds both in their thirties. But they needed a sizeable partnership, like the 196 Watson and Symonds put on for the third wicket, to take Queensland towards safety. Watson made 136, his first century since moving back to Queensland from Tasmania, while Symonds scored 126.
But the fall of Symonds, bowled by the debutant Brett Dorey soon after lunch, sparked a mini-collapse as Queensland lost five wickets for the addition of 78 runs. The Bulls then required a rearguard action from Ashley Noffke (53) and Nathan Hauritz (45 not out) to make sure Western Australia's first-innings score was overhauled.
