WEST INDIES v NEW ZEALAND

At Port-of-Spain, March 29

15-Apr-1997
At Port-of-Spain, March 29. New Zealand won by four wickets. Toss: New Zealand.
New Zealand got home with a ball to spare for their first ever victory over West Indies in the Caribbean. Trading on the slow, lifeless pitch, they left out Morrison and relied on the pop-gun bowlers - Larsen, Harris, Patel and Astle - to confuse the West Indians. This they did admirably, reducing the home side to 42 for three, before Adams led the recovery to 238 for seven; Holder struck 65 from 48 balls. Then Fleming played a steady hand for 106 not out from 108 balls, his maiden international century, hitting Ambrose's penultimate ball for two to level the series.
Man of the Match: S. P. Fleming.
