The first day of the Americas Cup in sun-drenched Bermuda provided no upsets, with easy wins for USA, the defending champions, Bermuda and Canada.
USA were made to work for their six-wicket win over Cayman Islands, slipping to 72 for 4 in pursuit of 139. But Charles Reid's unbeaten 42, and a brisk 30 not out from Clayton Lambert, the former West Indies Test batsman, ensured that order was restored.
Canada, who recently beat USA in the Intercontinental Cup, cruised to 260 for 8 before bowling Bahamas out for 98.
Argentina were well beaten by hosts Bermuda, who eased to an eight-wicket win thanks to a entertaining 98 from opener OJ Pitcher. Clay Smith, Bermuda's captain, was delighted. "The team has everything a skipper could ask for," he said. "We can actually stake a strong claim to win the tournament."
