Sri Lanka v United Arab Emirates

Wisden's review of the second match, Sri Lanka v United Arab Emirates

15-Apr-2017
At Mirpur, February 25, 2016 (floodlit). Sri Lanka won by 14 runs. Sri Lanka 129-8 (20 overs) (L. D. Chandimal 50; Amjad Javed 3-25); ‡United Arab Emirates 115-9 (20 overs) (S. P. Patil 37; S. L. Malinga 4-26, K. M. D. N. Kulasekara 3-10). MoM: S. L. Malinga.
Sri Lankan openers Tillekeratne Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal put on 68 in nine overs. Despite reserves of wickets and time, Sri Lanka could add only 61 more. Amjad Javed took 3-25 with his outswingers, and was well supported by fellow medium-pacers Mohammad Naveed and Mohammad Shehzad. The UAE's target was a modest 130, but the pitch continued to help the bowlers, and Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekara swept the top four aside within four overs. Slow left-armer Rangana Herath picked up two to make it 47-6 after ten, before Swapnil Patil and the lower order salvaged some dignity without quite threatening an upset. Malinga, playing his first competitive match since hurting his knee in November, squashed the resistance. However, his injury flared up later, and he missed the remainder of this tournament and the World Twenty20 in India.
