Canterbury 219 (Fulton 44, Stewart 44, Broom 40, Sewell 5-51) and 374 for 5 dec (Fulton 221*, Broom 109*, McSkimming 4-79) beat Otago 203 (Wiseman 5-48) and 222 (Todd 65, Wasim 45, Wiseman 6-57) by 168 runs
Scorecard
Canterbury declared at their overnight score of 374 for 5 and then dismissed Otago to complete a large victory at the University Oval at Dunedin. Paul Wiseman was instrumental in his side's 168-run victory: snapping up 6 for 57 as he steadily picked off the middle and lower order. But Shane Bond made his presence felt in the morning when he struck with his second ball to remove Christopher Gaffaney (0 for 1). Otago managed 222 primarily due to the efforts of Gregory Todd, who scored 65 before falling to Wiseman, and Mohammad Wasim, who ran up 45 and was involved in a stand of 98 runs with Todd. Once the two were parted (107 for 3) wickets fell regularly and, despite the rigid defence put up by the lower order, they were bowled out with plenty of overs to spare.
Northern Districts 262 (Ewans 91, Marshall 71*) and 278 for 6 dec (Flynn 69*, Watling 48) beat Auckland 153 and 147 (Barnes 57, Canning 42, Martin 4-19, Aldridge 4-33) by 240 runs
Scorecard
Northern Districts inflicted a crushing 240-run defeat on Auckland at the Eden Park Outer Oval as Graeme Aldridge and Bruce Martin shared eight wickets to limit Auckland to 147. It was their second abject surrender of the game after being bowled out for 153 in the first innings. Here, Aaron Barnes played patiently for his 57, but after Tama Canning's dismissal for 42, no other batsman accompanied him as he strove to draw the game.
Wellington 590 for 8 dec (Ryder 236, N Parlane 136, M Parlane 58) and 38 for 2 drew with Central Districts 497 (Taylor 184, Englefield 127, Sinclair 47)
Scorecard
Central Districts and Wellington played out a run-heavy draw at Fitzherbert Park. The stand between Ross Taylor and Jarrod Englefield for CD took on mammoth proportions, and when Englefield (127) was finally dismissed, the two had added 301 together. Taylor reached 184 before he was done in by Azhar Abbas. CD managed 497 in response to Wellington's 590. Wellington then played out 19 overs and reached 38 for 2 before the game was called off.
