Last Monday night's meeting of the Cricket Coaches Association was a unique affair. Two local Pinelands schoolboys made a presentation to a group of about 50 coaches outlining the findings of their school science project.
Dealing with the mechanics of spin bowling and the subtle influence of the seam position in flight, these boys gave a superb presentation and answered some tricky questions. This is the first time schoolboy researchers have been given the opportunity to address our cricket coaches, and it hopefully opens the way for more sports science studies of this kind.
The Coaches Association meets regularly during summer and winter (normally the first Monday of each month). Our next gathering will be on Monday 4th September at the Sports Science Institute to witness a cricket specific fitness training session. For further details contact the WPCA offices (see below). All coaches are most welcome at their next meeting.
Two important seminars are programmed for September:
Wednesday 20/09/00 Advanced Coaches Information Seminar
(09h00 - 15h00) Level 2/3 coaches are welcome to register.
A full programme to prepare you for the season.
Wednesday 27/09/00 Novice Coaching Seminar
(09h00 - 12h30) This is geared at the unqualified coach who hopes to unravel some of the mysteries of cricket coaching.
Registration is essential for both of the above. This can be done by phoning the WPCA offices: 683 6420 ext 215 of by faxing:
