Injured Gayle to miss whole of MiWAY T20

Chris Gayle will play no part for Dolphins in the MiWAY T20 Challenge in South Africa, as his groin injury persists. Gayle left South Africa on Sunday for Trinidad where he will attend the funeral of his former West Indies team-mate Runako Morton, who died in a car accident last week. Gayle may have been able to get fit in time for Dolphin's final group-stage match, on March 21, but the franchise and him have agreed he will not return to South Africa.

"Gayle was disappointed at not playing for the Dolphins, but the injury has not healed quickly enough to allow him to play," Jesse Chellan, CEO of KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union, the home of the Dolphins, said. "He enjoyed his short stay in Durban and looks forward to playing for the Dolphins in the future."

Gayle had picked up a grade two groin strain while playing for Barisal Burners in the Bangladesh Premier League and underwent rehabilitation in Durban in the hope that he would be able to play in the latter stages of Dolphins' campaign. However, he has not been able to get fit in time. He will, however, be ready in time for the start of the IPL on April 4, in which he will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

What is all the big noise about Cris Gayle? What is the WI success story with him, and what is the success story under Curtis Gibson? Let Gayle continue to do what he is good at, i.e. earning foreign extrange for the WI, and let Gibson continue to do what he has been doing, i.e. rebuilding WI cricket after the chaos caused by ill-discipline and the egoistic attitude of players, the WIPA and WICBC

Some people think that West Indies cannot win without gayle ,but the truth is we never won with him either ! Any thing is possible in cricket ,out of many may come one or more greats to surprise us .Best wishes to you WI .

to me chriss gayle is more important to west indies cricket than the coach otis G wicb is not doing any ham to christopher henry gayle but to west indies cricket & its fans

@CLASS9RYAN You say that WI can't win the T20 without Gayle, but may I remind you that they also were not winning with him. Of all the T20 clubs that Gayle has played for around the world, none has won a T20 championship with him as a member of the team. Bangalore came the closest but you might recall that Gayle failed in the final match against Mumbai.

Gayle is so unfortunate not 2 play for W I . Everyone Knows that W I can't win the W T 20 without Gayle..................... So. WICB please take Chris b4 d World T20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IPL? Oh yeah, even Sehwag played despite having a shoulder injury, missing the whole West Indies tour and half of the England test tour and all ODIs and T20s. So it's no surprise when Gayle will be ready for the IPL. After all, who wouldn't want to be ready for some bashing?

  • on March 12, 2012, 23:33 GMT

what do you know Ivor Henry, the WICB do not like Gayle and so there are determined not to let him play for the West Indies team . what they need to do is get rid of the head of the WICB and get some one that knows about cricket cause he sure don't know any thing about the game, cause if he did Gayle would be on the team right now .in stead of hurt.

so so true, IPL no problem.

@ Gary, be informed before your speak about someone. Gayle is out of the team because he is at odds with the WICB who is are odds with everybody else.WICB does not know how to properly manage talent and its sad how evry team in the world seems to want him to play for them except for the WICB. Yes, Gayle said something in a radio interview you never liked, but its time to be grown men and resolve this

i think gayle should be play all domestic t2o around the world

  • on March 12, 2012, 21:29 GMT

Everyone fully well know that Gayle does not want to play for West Indies while big money is on show for 20/20 cricket. Portia and the other politicians better pay attention to their country's interest and leave WICB to run West Indies cricket.

I still don't know what the argument is about surrounding Gayle. To me it's quite obvious that he doesn't have WI at heart.

  • on March 12, 2012, 20:45 GMT

This man that everybody is fighting to have in the West Indies side. Does anybody really think Gayle would have given up this money to play for WI?. Hell no. The only way that happens is if there is no T20 tournament taking place and that's unlikely these days. Can't be a WI team player and be a T20 gun for hire at the same time. Somethings gotta give.

Interesting how all players miraculously become fit for the IPL.
