WI selectors given two more years

ESPNcricinfo staff

The West Indies Cricket Board has voted to retain their current selection panel for another two years. Clyde Butts, Robert Haynes and Courtney Browne will continue until September 2014.

Butts will continue as chairman of the panel, which has presided over an unstable period in the last two years, with player availability become an increasingly difficult issue. Impasses developed between the board and several players, including Chris Gayle, Jerome Taylor and Ramnaresh Sarwan - the latter two having not returned to the national side.

The selection panel will hope their control of players will be helped by an increase in the number of annual retainer contracts being offered - as also voted for by the board. Twenty contacts will be offered to the men from 2012-13, an increase of five from the previous year.

The list of 20 players to be offered contracts was also voted through and will be announced at a later date, after the players have been advised of their deals.

It was the last board meeting for outgoing chief executive Ernest Hilaire, who is stepping down on September 30 and being replaced by Michael Muirhead, whose appointment was rubberstamped.

@Lloyd Philips ! well said ! those people should note.....one good performance during a series just to maintain a play on the team ...... also perform good before a tour just to get name for the tour.....typical of Sarwan and Taylor.

This panel has been the most useless in the history of WI cricket. Look at their record and this T20 team. Bowlers like Johnson, Cottereal, Benn and Roach left out for Rampaul and Edwards. They pick eight all-rounders on a 15 man squad. They still do not get it - bowlers bowl and batsmen bat. Bravo is vice captain of WI T20 team. He does not bat or bowl well enough to be on the team. Both Sri Lanka and now Australia have shown that if WI makes 300 in a T20 match, a good batting team will chase it down because we do not have bowlers. Ask Andy Roberts. WI woes are guaranteed to continue until 2014.

How can people say Sawan was inconsistent when the guy average is 40+ in Test and ODI. One bad tour of India doesn't mean you should be kick to the ground. Chanderpaul had the people behind him and is the reason y he is in the WI and not in England like Sarwan.

a new beginning, a new start ,maybe sarwan will be welcomed back to the game. we also need differeny captain for different format, this will improve the performance of the game.

it pains me when some people keep calling for the return of these players why dont these same people call on these players to dedicate themselves to the game and perform on a regular basis like chanderpaul and perform i have nothing against sarwan and a few other but they must perform r dont play them sarwan last series against india was so terrible that he had to be drop from the team for the final test it is a known fact that these guys will give u 1 r2 good innings then they just go and play stupid shots to get out the have to de consistent with their game look at chanderpaul at his age could still be ranked in the top 5 in the world that wasnt earned but sentiment it was earned by performance so when these supports of certain players is calling for their return they must also emphasize that they make runs on a regular basis dont tell me about what they uses to do tell me about now the pass is the pass that dont win matches what they do today is what count good luck to them

sarwan, taylor needs to be atleast on the test team. we have enough players with experience. rotate the players so they can get a rest for there fatigue level to always be low. dont drop a player for a year. just 1 or two match for the most.

let good sense prevail bring back sarwan and see the difference
