A brisk knock of 76 by Farhan Adil helped Habib Bank take the crucial first innings lead over Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), on the second day of their Patrons Trophy Quadrangular Stage match at the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) Stadium on Saturday.
Replying to a modest PIA first innings total of 200 all out, Habib Bank reached a score of 219, giving them a 19-run lead. By the close, PIA finished at 29 for 1 after Shahid Nazir sent Kamran Sajid back to the pavilion. For PIA, Fazl-e-Akbar finished with figures of 5-83, taking a five-wicket haul for the 35th time in his 112-match first-class career.
At five down for 64, Habib Bank were well short of taking the lead, with pacemen Fazl-e-Akbar and Najaf Shah, the left-armer, bowling at their best. Then came an invaluable 57-run sixth-wicket partnership between Farhan and the left-handed Abdul Rehman. The hard-hitting Junaid Zia then joined Farhan, adding another 67 runs for the seventh-wicket. Junaid made 30 off 44 balls with four fours.
Najaf Shah captured four wickets for 60 runs. Earlier, Habib Bank's opening bowlers Shahid Nazir and the left-armed Kamran Hussain had both ended with four wickets each.

After ten days of bat humiliating ball, and not a result in sight, this blue-riband series exploded to life on an enthralling opening day at the National Stadium in Karachi. Irfan Pathan's first-over hat-trick put India in charge, but a glorious counterattacking 113 from Kamran Akmal, ably supported by Abdul Razzaq and Shoaib Akhtar, took Pakistan all the way from 39 for 6 and the depths of despair to the relatively rude health of 245 all out. And the value of those lower-order contributions was underlined when Pakistan's pace attack blew away the Indian top order, with Mohammad Asif producing two magnificent deliveries to account for Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman.
Laxman had accompanied Dravid after Virender Sehwag had spent some time off the field during the Pakistan innings. The new combination didn't click, however, as Dravid was undone by a beautiful delivery that pitched in line and forced him to play. It was Sehwag that emerged then, but after a nonchalant flail for four down to third man, he had no answer to an express delivery from Shoaib that bounced and took the outside edge.

Pakistan's left-arm seamer Jamshed Ahmed secured a 3-1 series win for Pakistan Under-19, as they romped to a five-wicket victory in the last match after bundling West Indies out for a meagre 113 at Karachi.
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Pakistan were in command from the earliest exchanges. Jamshed extracted Richard Ramdeen for a duck, before adding the scalps of William Perkins and Andre McCarthy, as West Indies slipped to 21 for 3.
The captain, Jason Mohammad, dug in for a gritty 14, but once he had fallen to Akhtar Ayub, the middle order folded meekly to Anwar Ali, and were staring at humiliation on 52 for 8. The tail saved some blushes, however, with Sunil Narine clubbing a quick 29, but the total was never going to be sufficient.

Sara McGlashan hit an unbeaten half-century as Central Districts beat Canterbury by five wickets at Christchurch to claim their first State League title. Having dismissed Canterbury for just 150, CD coasted home with 17 balls to spare. It was just the second time that the unfancied CD side had beaten Canterbury in their history.
After rain delayed the start, Canterbury opted to bat but struggled to get a partnership going and lost wickets at regular intervals to finish on 150 for 9 after 50 overs. Both Haidee Tiffen and Beth McNeill top-scored with 25. Zara McWilliams picked up 3 for 37 for Central Districts.
In the second innings, Amy Satterthwaite picked up three quick top-order wickets to reduce Central Districts to 65 for 3 but McGlashan held the innings together with a well-made 55 and saw them through to the title.

Auckland had New Zealand batsmen Lou Vincent and Scott Styris back in the side but it made no difference as the home team continued its abysmal form this season. Dismissed for a paltry 170, Auckland was never going to trouble Wellington, who cruised to an eight-wicket victory in 29.5 overs. Stephen Fleming, the New Zealand captain, led the way with 66 not out, while young opener Jesse Ryder again impressed with 49. Michael Parlane continued his good season with 29 not out. In Auckland's innings, again it was left to Rob Nicol, who has fought a lone hand this season, to salvage pride with 61. Mark Gillespie was the best of the Wellington bowlers with 3 for 21 off nine overs.
Canterbury moved to the top of the State Shield table with their seven-wicket victory against strugglers Northern Districts. Northern posted a meagre 201 off 50 overs, with only Hamish Marshall (58) passing 50. Recently retired international Chris Cairns showed there was still life in the old dog with 3 for 45 off 10 overs. Canterbury were untroubled and cruised to victory in the 35th over. Craig McMillan experienced a welcome return to form with 88 not out while Shanan Stewart posted an unbeaten 44.

Pakistan Under-19 clinch a thriller

A strong bowling performance by the Pakistan Under-19 side helped them sneak a 15-run win against their West Indian counterparts to go up 2-1 in the four-match one-day series

A strong bowling performance by the Pakistan Under-19 side helped them sneak a 15-run win against their West Indian counterparts to go up 2-1 in the four-match one-day series. In a close encounter in Karachi, the Pakistanis managed just 225 after being put in, thanks to Mohammad Ibrahim's 60. The West Indians were comfortably placed at 151 for 3, but then lost their remaining wickets for 59 to be bowled out for 210.
After losing three early wickets in their run-chase, the West Indians were propped up by a 76-run stand for the fourth wicket between Jason Mohammed (59) and Gajanand Singh (61). However, once that pair was separated, the rest of the batting caved in, with none of the remaining batsmen managing more than 10. Jamshed Ahmed, a left-arm seamer, was the most successful bowler, taking 3 for 39, including the crucial wicket of Gajanand.
Ibrahim had earlier been Pakistan's hero with the bat, steering his side to a competitive total after they had crumbled to 40 for 4. He added 93 for the fifth wicket with Anwar Ali (46), while Sarfraz Ahmed, the captain and wicketkeeper, added 33 to ensure that they went past 200. Javon Searles,a right-arm fast bowler, put in a splendid performance, taking 5 for 33, but despite that effort, Pakistan managed a total which eventually proved to be just beyond the West Indians' reach.

de Villiers powers Titans to victory

The Titans remained unbeaten in the Standard Bank Pro20 Series with a convincing 33-run win over the Cobras at SuperSport Park, Centurion

The Titans remained unbeaten in the Standard Bank Pro20 Series with a convincing 33-run win over the Cobras at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
Batting first on a superb pitch, the Titans scored 180 for 7 despite a 20-minute break due a power failure resulting in the floodlights going out. AB de Villiers and Goolam Bodi put on 85 off 54 balls for the first wicket setting the platform for the rest. A quick 32 from Martin van Jaarsveld and 21 not out from Gerald Dros maintained the tempo for the Titans, taking them to a very defendable total. Alan Dawson showed his experience taking 1 for 24 in his four overs.
The Cobras started well with Ian Harvey (35) and JP Duminy (27) staying in touch with the rate. Three failures at the top of the innings, due to some hostile bowling from Morne Morkel (2 for 17), put the rest of the batting under a lot of pressure. The young Dominic Telo showed some class, but once he was run out for 34 in his first Pro20 innings, the writing was on the wall with the Cobra settling on reaching the bonus-point total of 144, which they passed in the final over to end on 147 for 9.
