Heat vs Strikers, 2nd Match at Adelaide, Dec 21 2016 - Ball by Ball Commentary
The Heat hold their nerve. They dropped some catches in the field but in the clutch moments they executed their plan with the ball to defend a big total.
The game was set up with the bat by a fabulous opening stand between Peirson and McCullum. Alex Ross' clean striking tipped the total beyond 200.
The Strikers bettered the Heat with their opening stand thanks to devastating half-centuries from Dunk and Weatherald but they could not find enough boundaries late. Samuel Badree's maiden to Travis Head was critical and it left too much for Brad Hodge to do. Great game of cricket.
Brendon McCullum has been named Man of the Match for his innings and also his captaincy.
McCullum: "I feel very fortunate to get it. We said just keep trying to take wickets and feel like you're in front of the game."
McCullum on Badree's maiden: "(It was) huge, absolutely massive."
McCullum on Ross' innings: "His innings was a really mature innings. He gave himself some time, got used to the conditions and was devastating at the back end. I thought he should've been Man of the Match."
A great win for the Heat to open their campaign.
They don't play again until next Wednesday against the Thunder. The Strikers head to Perth on Friday to face the Scorchers.
That's it from Adelaide tonight. Join us tomorrow for the clash between the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder at Docklands in Melbourne.
