Scorecard summary
Sri Lanka 332/7(50 overs)
Canada 122/10(36.5 overs)

A satisfied Sri Lanka walk off with a 210-run victory, the seventh largest in World Cup history.

It wasn't a vintage match for Hambantota's debut match, but the fans won't be complaining after most things went their team's way.

Dilshan: "We are happy with this, very comfortable win, very important first match, batting department did a great job, I got a start disappointed to not get a century, next match is Pakistan, we have to be 100% in that match. First session was very hot and humid, second session was better, that is Sri Lanka."

One thing Sri Lanka will need to look at is the timing of the batting Powerplay, which Martin Crowe feels will be the key tactical offering of this tournament.

And have you seen ESPNcricinfo's new mobile apps on the block? iPhone and Android users head here.

Post-match presentation coming up. Namal Rajapaksha, son of Sri Lanka's president, is there with Pat Symcox.

Ashish Bagai: "Always going to be a tough task, we started pretty well, kept them under 5 for the first 25 overs, two world-class players took it away from us. A bit different weather here, so there was a bit of dehydration and cramps, we have seven days to recover from this. Great facility here and great crowd."

Kumar Sangakkara: "It was all set up by the openers, the real star was Jayawardene, it is very easy to bat with him. Wickets like this, it is nice to get an idea of whats going on, that's why I took a bit of time, it was good that Mahela came back to bring the momentum our way. We were pretty clinical, the spinners and the fast bowlers did exactly what we wanted." He has plenty of praise for the new stadium as well."

Namal Rajapaksha hands out the Man of the Match award to Mahela Jayawardene.

Mahela: "Always the first game is a nerve-wracking feeling, guys gave a ood start, just needed a momentum shift in the middle, was a bit shattered after the knock ,was really tired after that, luckily we have several days to recover. It was a good pitch, good outfield, great stadium and a great atmosphere." He says he had no idea that he broke the record for fastest century by a Sri Lankan in the World Cup.

Not a great day at the World Cup, two absolutely one-sided matches will again fuel the debate over including Associate nations in the World Cup. the two Test teams who played today won't be complaining though, almost everything went right for them.

Tomorrow's game is a day-nighter between Australia v Zimbabwe. Till then from Siddarth Ravindran and Nitin Sundar, it's good night. Thanks for the mails.
