the demolition job is complete! Gill lands the knockout blow and India begin their Asia Cup campaign with a MASSIVE win! A touch short and a hint of width offered, and that is all Gill is waiting for. He rocks back, opens up his stance and blitzes it down the ground. Mid on had no chance, and India, by extension, gave UAE no chance tonight!
U.A.E. vs India, 2nd Match, Group A at Dubai, Asia Cup, Sep 10 2025 - Match Result
8:50pm That will be all from us for tonight. India flexed their muscles and were simply too hot to handle for the UAE. We will be back again tomorrow as Bangladesh begin their Asia Cup campaign against Hong Kong. Until then, from Raghav, Vairavan and myself (Shashwat), it is goodbye!
Kuldeep Yadav, Player of the Match: (On not playing a lot in recent months) It was tough for me. Was working on my bowling and my fitness as well (with Adrian le Roux, our Strength & Conditioning coach), and everything was going perfect (tonight). The length matters a lot, reading the batters. Specially in this format, the length is the main thing and reading the batters and what they are trying to do. Reacting to what the batter was trying to do (off the next ball).
Suryakumar Yadav, India captain: (On the decision at the toss) Wanted to see how the wicket was playing, it was the same in the second innings as well. (On if they will get their entire match fee with this being an early finish) That we will talk about later (laughs). Clinical performance from the buys. Wanted good energy and attitude in the field and that carried over into the batting. Recently, a lot of boys were here during the Champions Trophy. It (the pitch) looked good but it looked on the slower side. It is very hot here, so thought spinners might have a bit more dominance, but nice support shown by Hardik, Bumrah and Dube. (On Abhishek) He is a phenomenal batter and that is the reason he is the world number one (batter) right now. He keeps the team first, irrespective of the score, and that is unbelievable from him. (On sending a message to Pakistan with this performance) We all are excited, everyone wants to play a good game and we are really looking forward to it.
Muhammad Waseem, UAE captain: We started well as a batting team but we lost wickets in a cluster, and that cost us the game. We can say that they (India) are a brilliant team and are bowling really well. They executed their plan for every batter. That is why they are the number one team. As a team, we have to come back stronger and we have to learn from these mistakes, and hopefully we can come back stronger.
Ishan L: "India's NRR now over 10!!!"
8:26pm Four and a half overs is all it takes for India. Abhishek and Gill flexed their muscles and some of their stroke-making was breath-taking, even if they did not have to contend with the pressure of a huge total. SKY got a maximum in too, and India will be very pleased with their evening's work.
Not sure the same could be said about the UAE. They came into the Asia Cup, thinking they could rattle a few feathers and while that could still happen, this performance did not provide much evidence that that could be the case. Their batting was listless and they could not do much when India rampaged at them in the chase.
Here's Namooh Shah, highlighting India's dominance today with a stat. Fastest chase by India in Men's T20I ( by overs)
4.3 overs v U.A.E, Today
6.3 overs v SCO, Dubai 2021
9.2 overs v BAN, Hangzhou 2023
tossed up full and wide outside off. SKY gets down on the sweep, fetches it and swipes it towards deep backward square leg
Will SKY look to finish it off with one stroke?
angled in on a length on off. Gill presses forward and knocks it down the ground to long off
Simranjeet to bowl to Gill
and SKY, just like that, is up and running! Shortish and sliding a smidgen down leg. That is all SKY needs. He steps inside the line, watches the ball like a hawk and helps it away over fine leg in trademark style!
SKY in at 3
goes straight up, and pouched! Hard length on middle and leg. Abhishek shuffles across his stumps, trying to clip this over mid wicket. The ball gets a little big on him, though, and he miscues it. Haider tracks it from mid on, moves to his left and then completes it with minimal fuss. Gives a fist-pump too, as does Siddique, and Abhishek walks back after a sprightly cameo!
six more! Half-tracker down leg and that is just begging to be hit. Abhishek obliges by stepping inside the line and dumping it over the fine leg fence!
Suraj: "2.5 was a Heinrich Klaasen special, I have seen him play that shot so many times. Looks like Abhishek picked it up during the IPL"
banged into the track outside off. Gill rises with the bounce and swats it towards mid on. Disappointed that he could not get the gap
back of a length delivery bowled a mile outside off. Left alone by Gill and the umpire has to indulge in some more exercise
back of a length just outside off. Abhishek sits deep in his crease and opens his bat face to guide it towards deep backward point
length ball outside off, shaping away slightly. Gill comes forward and drives it to mid off before scampering across to the other end
one bounce and into the fence! Parashar goes fuller outside off and that is right into Abhishek's wheelhouse. He winds up and scythes it over extra cover!
oh my days - that is an incredible shot! Length ball tailing back into leg stump. Abhishek gives himself room and then off the back foot crunches it over mid off. Wow!
back of a length, swerving back into leg stump. Abhishek tries to stay leg side of the ball and punches it towards extra cover. There is a misfield but the batters decide against running on it
back of a length, following the batter well outside leg. Abhishek, tucked up for room, pats it towards mid wicket
shortish on middle and leg and this skids onto Abhishek. He splices it a touch and the ball swirls over mid wicket for a couple of runs
speared down leg this time. The idea was to cramp Abhishek but this was too far down leg. Easy decision for the umpire once Abhishek swiped and missed
darted in on a back of a length on leg stump. Abhishek backs away and jabs it into the off side
Parashar from around the wicket
AJ: "Scores are identical after the first over. UAE needs to do this for the rest of the inning. simple." -- Ha! Sounds like a plan...
that is a Shubman Gill special! Full ball on the pads and Gill takes full toll. He dances down the track, snaps his wrists into action and whips it a mile over the deep square leg fence!
fullish delivery wide outside off. Abhishek throws his hands at it and slices it towards deep backward point
length on off and this shapes back in slightly. Gill drops it into the off side and looks at his partner, who responds and dashes across
Shubman Gill was announced as India's vice-captain for the Asia Cup and is opening the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma, rekindling a friendship and a bromance that dates back to their U-14 days. Read the entire story here.
