McGlashan does not leave it to Taylor, brings out the reverse sweep and gets it well over the infield over point, er, square leg for a boundary, and New Zealand finally, finally have a win in months
New Zealand vs Pakistan, 1st T20I at Auckland, Dec 26 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
New Zealand won by 5 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)
So that will be it from us for the moment. The Ashes going on at the MCG, India take on South Africa in Durban in a few hours, so there is lots of cricket coming your way. And Pakistan meet New Zealand again on Tuesday, at 6 am GMT. Do join us then. For now, this is Abhishek Purohit signing off, on behalf of Nitin Sundar and Venkat Raghav. Cheers
At 58 for 1 inside six overs, Pakistan were off to a blinder. It was Southee who turned it around for New Zealand with his first five-wicket haul in T20 internationals. Gul and Riaz hit out in the end to take Pakistan to 143 but that was never going to be enough on a ground where anything that beat the infield went to the boundary. And Guptill's innings finished off Pakistan's remaining chances. Taylor found some form towards the end, and New Zealand have what has been a largely comfortable win
gets another one in the slot, this one is a touch fuller, and Tayor takes a step down the track and lifts it over wide long on, New Zealand are almost home
worked away square on the leg side
the Taylor slog sweeps arrives finally, gets one in the slot, he goes down on a knee and swings it over deep midwicket, good clean hit
another one is fired flat and quick down the leg side, poor bowling this
gets one this time, waits for this delivery to turn into him and works it backward of square
turned to midwicket, cannot get the single
works this full delivery away to midwicket
fires it down the leg side, and Umar had no chance to collect that one
142 kph but wide outside off stump, and left alone easily
defends a back of a length ball down to deepish mid off, doesn't need to do much now
gets forward and opens the blade to steer a length ball past backward point
leaves this one outside off stump alone
Taylor leans into the drive, and gets it right out of the middle of the bat, the ball bounces over extra cover, and long off ends up escorting it past the ropes
slashes hard at a wide delivery, and at Shoaib's pace, it carries over a diving third man all the way for a six, would you believe it?
Afridi senses they could be on to something, and brings Shoaib Akhtar back
played back to the bowler, end of a good over, can Pakistan make something out of it?
good bowling, the one that goes straight on outside off stump, he looks to cut it but is beaten as it does not turn
gone! it was fast and flat, coming in sharply with the arm, Franklin backed away to cut, but even as the bat was coming down, the ball had crashed into the pads first in front of middle and leg, and umpire Billy thought about it for some time before sending Franklin on his way with the crooked finger
gets it down to long on this time for a single
tucks him up for room again, and runs past the non-striker to field the ball as it is punched down the track
flat on the stumps, played out to midwicket
Hafeez gets another bowl
